Mission
The growth of interdisciplinary science at Dartmouth has been catalyzed by the creation in 2006 of the Neukom Institute for Computational Science, endowed by the generous gift of William H. Neukom, '64.
The Institute’s mission is to foster collaborative research between computational science and other disciplines; educate future generations of interdisciplinary researchers; and develop new curricular, mentoring, and collaborative learning opportunities at Dartmouth.
The Institute currently supports dozens of students, faculty, laboratories, classes, and programs across the campus. Involved students are currently engaged in multi-disciplinary studies including brain imaging methods, visual and auditory perception, high-level perceptual and social cognition, robotics, human languages and communication, computational analyses of music, evolution, genetics, development, learning, education, and perception. Faculty and students affiliated with the Institute are supported by millions of dollars of current research grants and contracts on topics ranging from robots and computer hardware to studies of learning disabilities in children. The Institute will continue to position Dartmouth at the forefront of these cross-disciplinary fields while providing state-of-the-art opportunities to faculty and students, producing generations of future leaders in these scientific fields.
